  11. This software is Freeware which means, you are not required to pay any fee
  12. in order to use it. You are not allowed to ask any so-called contribution
  13. while distributing except to cover mail expenses. These must not exceed the
  14. value for a normal letter.
  15. You are not allowed to change any of the accompanying components and any
  16. distribution of the package has to be done as it. Removing or adding modules
  17. has to be discussed with the author. You may not claim the author responsible
  18. for any loss of data due to programme failure as a result of third party
  19. manipulation.

  24. Lux-Log for Windows has been written using Powersoft's PowerBuilder. There is
  25. no fee on the image copy and you are free to make as much copies as you want
  26. to.

  31. - Capable of handling up to 30,000+ log-books using one database and one image
  32.   copy.
  33. - All used data may be exported into ASCII files using a pre-defined format.
  34. - All used data may be imported from ASCII files using a pre-defined format.
  35. - No external tool needed as you get full access to all data stored
  36.   (be careful with false manipulations).
  37. - Imports from the following contest software:
  38.   K1EA's CT v7 and v8, DL4MFM's QW v4.2.x, and WF1B's RTTY
  39.   (ARRL 10m; ARRL DX Test, DX side; CQ WPX; CQ WW; CQ 160m).
  40. - Imports from Lux-Log for DOS and DX-Log (CT .RES file).
  41. - Instant information on previous contacts and country information during data
  42.   entry.

  55. Hardware requirement
  56. --------------------
  57. Unfortunately, Lux-Log for Windows, compared to Lux-Log for DOS, does no longer
  58. run on simple equipped hardware. This means, Lux-Log for DOS could easily be
  59. run on any 80x86 based hardware whereas Lux-Log for Windows requires not less
  60. than a 80386 processor.
  61.  
  62. To work comfortably, you should use a 80486+ processor having access to at
  63. least 8MB of RAM. A fast hard-disk drive would help to improve performance.
  64. LLW has been designed running MS-Windows v3.1, MS-Windows v3.11,
  65. and MS-Windows 95 (v4.00.437, v4.00.950, v4.00.950a).

  67. In order to run, a total of 11MB of files has to be installed.
  68. There does only exist one big file which holds all the necessary data named
  69. LUX_LOG.DB. Loosing this file results in loosing all your data.
  70.  
  71. Here's how to set-up the program:
  72.  
  73. Step 1: Create two seperate directories, like C:\LL_201I and C:\LL_BASE
  74. Step 2: Copy all LL_201I1-2.EXE files into C:\LL_201I
  75. Step 3: Copy all LL_BASE1-3.EXE files into C:\LL_BASE
  76. Step 4: Start the executables to un-archive (LL_201I1, LL_201I2, LL_BASE1 etc.)
  77. Step 5: Start the SETUP program in C:\LL_BASE
  78. Step 6: Start the SETUP program in C:\LL_201I
  79. Step 7: You may now delete the directories LL_201I and LL_BASE. They are no
  80.         longer required as the default installation goes into C:\LUXLOG.
  81.         Of course, you may change this path
  82. Step 8: Don't forget to have a look into ODBC.INI in your Windows directory
  83.         and check all path settings.
  84. Step 9: Start Lux-Log
  85.  
  86. It may happen that the setup program asks you if it should overwrite some
  87. files that are located in the Windows SYSTEM directory. If you are sure
  88. that your files are more up-to-date, do not overwrite yours.

  90. If you are already a user of Lux-Log for Windows, you don't need to install
  91. the LL_BASE? files again. Just install the LL_<version>? files and answer all
  92. overwrite prompts with yes. In this case, be sure to uncheck the database
  93. installation.
